UNIABUJA VC (Prof Adelabu) Leaves Office

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), Professor James Adelabu is set to leave office today as his 5-years tenure expires (30th June, 2014).

Adelabu in his farewell speech thanked the whole university community for giving him the opportunity to serve them and stated that he did not award any new contract as VC at the end of his tenure as rumours has it.

He said, “How can I award a contract like that given the fact that the NEEDS assessment is involved for which tendering and opening of bid was done? It was not even by the university but by a consortium.

“The award of the contract had taken a normal process for which Council was to meet. They didn’t want me to award contracts as VC”.

However, a new Vice-Chancellor for UNIABUJA has not emerged yet as the Governing Council is set to announce the helmsman today .

It was gathered that 123 candidates applied for the seat of the Vice-Chancellor while 10 candidates were shortlisted with Professors Umaru Garba Danbatta, Raheem Adebayo Lawal and Michael Umale Adikwu on top of the list.

After a set of interviews and screening, Danbatta, a professor of Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Kano State (North West) scored 83%, followed by Lawal, a professor of Language Education from Kwara State (North Central) with 73% and Adikwu, a professor of Pharmacy from Benue State (North Central) with 65%.
