Sokoto State University Holds First Matriculation Ceremony

The information resching our desk indicates that the first matriculation ceremony of Sokoto State University (SSU) was held on Saturday 2nd August, 2014 for 783 pioneer students of the institution. In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor, Nuhu Yaqub said the National University Commission (NUC) granted it a carrying capacity of 1,000 students, to start with but the matriculated students stand at 783 as some turned down their admission or went to other institutions.

“Our belief is that the universities of the 21st century such as our dear Sokoto State University has no business in doing what the older universities are doing that has brought odiousness to the comity of universities in this country,” he said.

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who is a guest at the event said that the university will not be dressed in a political garb as the pattern of recruitment in the institution has reflected excellence and diversity.

Also speaking, Pro-chancellor of the University, Alhaji Aliyu Shinkafi described building and nurturing a university as a grand project at anytime and anywhere as it produces men and women that come out into the society with the requisite skills to build the nation.

Shinkafi urged the university to build a well renowned expertise on the history and traditions of the Sokoto community.
