Laboratory Scientists Sue LAUTECH Management over Alleged Usurpation of Duties

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso chapter, has sued the management of the institution over alleged take-over of their duties.

The Chairperson of the group, Mrs Tawakalitu Sakariyau, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ogbomoso on Saturday that other staffs, especially medical doctors, were taking over the duties of medical laboratory scientists.

“What we won’t tolerate any longer is the taking over of our duties by other categories of staff, especially doctors, who do this in the laboratory,” she said.

NAN reports that some members of the group led by Sakariyau had on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest within the hospital’s premises over the issue.

Dr Adebayo Olakulehin, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee in the hospital, however, described the issue as a product of “overlap in the schedule of duties.''

Olakunlehin said that the schedule was not limited to the hospital but contained in the Federal Government edict. He added that the request of the concerned party was not available in the organogram of the organization.

Olakunlehin said that the institution would wait for the court verdict since the medical laboratory scientists had sought judicial pronouncement on the matter.
