Presidential NEEDs Assessment Committee Submits Report

The presidential committee on NEEDs Assessment of public polytechnics and colleges of education set up by President Goodluck Jonathan in May 2013 has submitted the reports of their findings.

The committed were expected to ascertain the state of physical infrastructure, human and material resources, academic programmes, students’ environment and funding requirements of public polytechnics and colleges of education.

Chairperson of the committee, Mrs. Hindatu Abdullahi, while submitting the report said the main recommendation of the committee is that the federal government should allocate more money for the rehabilitation of public polytechnics and colleges of education in the country it was discovered that physical infrastructures were inadequate, while available ones were utilised beyond their installed capacity.

The committee also in the report recommended that the federal government should ensure the completion of all abandoned and ongoing projects in all tertiary institutions.

They recommended the recruitment of qualified teachers and training/retraining of personnel, provision and upgrading of internet connectivity, telecommunication and information services and provision of essential learning resources/materials, amongst other things.
