UNIABUJA New VC Announcement Postponed Due To Security Reasons

The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) community, who are eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new helmsman that will turn around its fortunes following the controversial reign of Professor James Adelabu will have to wait a while longer as the appointment of a New Vice-Chancellor for the institution has been postponed till Monday June 30th, 2014.

The university’s governing council announced that the postponement was due to the controversial security reports on some of the leading candidates contesting for the post of Vice chancellor, coupled with late submission on other contenders.

A senior lecturer and member of the university senate who pleaded anonymity revealed that security reports on two out of the three shortlisted candidates were not too favourable, forcing the university council to call up more names from the reserve list.

It would be recalled that academic activities in the university had remained suspended since the middle of June, when a peaceful demonstration organised by the students turned violent leading to the closure of the institution indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the UNIABUJA Registrar, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Modibbo has been sent on compulsory leave by the governing council following the expiration of his tenure as it was alleged that he is openly backing one of the candidates for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
