Ondo State Gets New Federal Polytechnic

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a new polytechnic Ondo State in order to provide increased access to the Ondo youths who are yearning for tertiary education and to provide skilled middle level manpower for national development.

Announcing the new development, the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko said that the polytechnic will be sited at Ile Oluji, in Ile Oluji-Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Mimiko recalled that a false rumour of a polytechnic allegedly rejected by Ile Oluji led to a communal crisis not long ago in the area but said that he hopes that the siting of the Federal Polytechnic will put to rest all acrimony and ill will in the community.

In the approval letter from the FG, the Supervising Minister for Education, Chief Nyesom Nwike, said that the establishment of the Polytechnic is informed by the fact that there is no Federal Polytechnic in Ondo State as is the case with some of its peers in the South West zone of the country.

He added that the approved polytechnic comes with a N1billion take-off grant from the federal government.

Reacting to this, the Jegun of Ile Oluji, Oba Stephen Adedugbe, thanked President Jonathan for the honour done to Ondo State and Governor Mimiko for deciding Ile Oluji as the host community.
