Another Union In Lagos State University (LASU) To Begin Strike On monday

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Lagos State University (LASU) Chapter, on Friday said it would commence an indefinite strike on Monday as the Lagos State Government and the institution’s management had failed to meet the union’s demands since it suspended its strike on Jan.13.

Mr Saheed Oseni, the chairman of the chapter, revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the decision was taken at the union’s congress.

According to NAN report, SSANU-LASU had on 16th May, issued the management a week ultimatum to meet its demands or face a strike.

The union had gone on strike in September 2013 and suspended it on Jan.13, after the government pledged to meet its demands.

SSANU had demanded the implementation of the 2011/2012 staff promotion, which it said was pending due to the “No Vacancy, No Promotion” policy of its management. It also demanded the implementation of the 65-year retirement age for its members and the reversal of the hike in school fees.

Oseni said that the management has not given the issues enough attention, as no effort has been made to invite the union for dialogue since it gave an ultimatum last week.

According to him, all administrative activities by members of the union will be withdrawn until all the demands are met. (NAN)
