The Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah has announced that a total of 349 students will be conferred with First Degrees at the University’s second Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2014.

Professor Na’Allah made this known at the Convocation Press Briefing held at the University Council Chambers on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

Giving the breakdown of the graduating students, the VC said two students came out with First-Class; 86 with 2nd Class Upper division; 193 with 2nd Class Lower division, while 68 have Third Class.

He said no student produced by the University has a business searching for employment as they have been equipped to be self-reliant.

According to him, more than 3,000 businesses have been registered by KWASU students even before their graduation.

He said the students have been able to successfully combine academics with business through the help of the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship.

He urged the would-be graduands to be proud of their results as they have been prepared to excel.

Professor Na’Allah stated that the University will present its Engineering programmes for full accreditation later this year with a view to recording success as usual.
The VC said KWASU’s goal is to be a world-class University in line with the vision of its founding fathers.

On the achievements so far recorded by the University, the Vice-Chancellor said KWASU recently established a solar energy company called Ranapower Solar Energy Company Ltd in collaboration with three other organisations with a view to finding a lasting solution to the energy crisis facing Nigeria.

He also said that the University is collaborating with investors to build hostels in order to accommodate all its students on campus, adding that the College of Agriculture is looking at commercial agriculture to enhance food security in the country.

Professor Na’Allah added that the University has also introduced the “Farm to Wealth” programme which he said made it compulsory for all students to learn how to farm so as to increase their capacities for self-employment after their graduation.

As part of efforts to generate funds, the Vice-Chancellor stated that KWASU has a Friend of America Kwara State University Organisation aimed at attracting donations to the University from the United States of America, adding that KWASU Foundation would soon be established to mobilise for funds locally in order to complement government’s subvention.

He added that the University has also set up Campus Travels and Tours unit to arrange travels for people around the world.

In terms of academic staff recruitment, he said the University has continued to attract the best academic staff both locally and internally, maintaining that the Institution is raising the bar in terms of quality control and assurance. He said KWASU will, this year, admit qualified candidates into its Postgraduate programmes at Master’s and PhD levels. As part of KWASU’s innovative moves, Prof.

Na’Allah announced that on June 24, 2014, the University will have its annual Open House programme for secondary school students, and stakeholders in the educational sector.

The Open House, the VC stressed, is designed to showcase the programmes run by the Institution and attract the best students to the Institution.
