NYSC Redeployment: Corps Members Who Use Fake Medical Reports FacesJail Term – DG



The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi has warned corps members who procures fake medical report to effect relocation to desist from such act as those caught will be sanctioned and possibly face jail terms.

The NYSC DG who acknowledged the security challenges in some parts of the country, said cases of relocation will be treated strictly on merit based on marital, health and security grounds. Olawumi announced that the Batch ‘B’ orientation of Corps Members will commence on Tuesday 5th August with 96,000 graduates participating.

He also noted that the Youth Service Corp remains committed to ensuring the development of rural areas in all ramifications.

University of Nigeria, UNN Lecturer Commits Suicide

Another not so wonderful story coming from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka few days after the reported fisticuffs between the Postgraduate and Undergraduate students of the University.

The latest reports has it that a lecturer at the University, Dr Bede Opata has taken his own life.

The School is yet to recover from the crisis that erupted 2 days ago between her Undergraduates and Postgraduate students at the Nsukka campus when another sad news filtered in from the Enugu campus of the University where Dr Opata is said to be a lecturer at the Faculty of Law.

The 38 year old Lecturer committed suicide over a yet to be confirmed reason.

Redeemer University Student Murders Father For Praying

Student of the Department of History and International Relations at Redeemer University Tolani Ajayi, a 21-year-old has been arrested for murdering his father over prayer argument.

The suspect committed the crime by in their house after his late father, Barrister Charles Ajayi (SAN) allegedly slapped him for not responding to all the prayer points he (the deceased) raised.

He stabbed his father and later used a cutlass to cut his throat. Tolani dumped his father’s corpse in a nearby bush at the Canaan land Street in the RCCG Camp and told neighbours that his father had gone on evangelism.

The DPO Redemption Camp, SP Olaiya Martins who led a team of detectives and some members of the community who noticed the strange attitude of the suspect while dumping a box, to the point where the body of the SAN was dumped, traced the ground marks of the dragged box from where the suspect dumped the dad’s corpse to the house of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria where they met the suspect and arrested him after he confessed to the crime.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun Sate, CP Ikemefuna Okoye has sent a powerful team of detectives led by the officer in charge of Homicide section of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran Abeokuta to assess the situation and take over the matter for further investigation and necessary action.

What a wicked world! May the soul of the deceased rest in peace.

Former UNN VC Under EFCC's Spotlight For Misuse Of Funds

Men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrived the Nsukka campus of the University of Nigeria (UNN) for investigations over the alleged misappropriation of funds leveled against the former Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Bartho Okolo who just completed his 5-years tenure in office.

The UNN Alumni Association, workers’ unions in the university and the South Eastern Zone of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) were among those who had accused the former VC of official wrongdoings in the handling of the institution's funds and award of contracts without following due process.

The alumni association alleged that more than N3 billion of the University fund was misused in Professor Okolo’s tenure.

They also accused the former Vice Chancellor of awarding road contracts worth nearly N100 million, paid more than 90 per cent of the contract sums and yet the contracts remained un-executed until the end of his tenure.

Proffessor Okolo is being investigated with some other top administrative officers during his tenure.

Nasarawa Schools Fears Over Boko Haram Threat Letter

There was pandemonium on Thursday in Nasarawa State over the alleged abduction threat letters sent to three government secondary schools by members of the dreaded Boko Haram group.

Students of Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Lafia which was one of the schools that got the threat fled their hostels for fear of being abducted by the insurgents.

Available students who confirmed the incident said that many of their colleagues have left the school while they are waiting for the remaining students so that they escape together.

Security operatives had been deployed to the schools to forestall any intrusion as stern-looking mobile policemen have already taken over the school premises.

Reacting, the state Commissioner for Education, Yakubu Na’Hauwa, denied knowledge of the event, saying the information that students had left hostels had not reached his office.

However, the state Police PRO, Ismaila Numan, confirmed that the letter was received on Tuesday, adding that the police had commenced investigations on its authenticity or otherwise.
