The Nigerian Maritime Administrative and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has commenced work at the temporary site of its university at Okerenkoko in Delta State.
The university, which is known as NIMASA Maritime University, when completed is expected to take care of the manpower need in the sector.
Director General of NIMASA, Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, in a statement said full academic session would commence in September this year, adding that since he took charge of the agency, it has trained about 2500 Nigerians in different maritime institutions.
“In addition to that, we are assisting the Maritime Academy in Oron to grow. Statutorily, we give a part of our revenue to them. This university will help to boost staff capacity,” he said.
